STEP 6: Final assembly

Congratulations! You have a working XM radio in your Saab 9-5! Now, all you have left to do is mount the control/display unit into the fancy ashtray bezel.

You've probably figured out how to do that already. The control/display unit can only go into the bezel in one direction because of the cable coming out of it. Carefully snap the control/display unit into the bezel, and then carefully snap the bezel into the ashtray slot.

A beautiful, clean, seamless XM Radio installation!

This XM Radio has some handy features including 30 possible presets, and the ability to find your favorite songs. I love this feature. If you're listening to a favorite song, press and hold the XM button and the radio will remember it. Then, whenever this song plays (on any XM channel), the radio will beep to let you know. When it does, you have 8 seconds to press the XM button and immediately jump to the channel playing your song. Cool, huh?

Take a bit to read the user's manual for other features and to get familiar with the radio. Tune to Channel 0 to get your XM Radio's ID number. You need this to activate the radio. It is necessary to have the radio on and playing when you call XM to activate. The radio needs to be on when they send the activation code to the radio. Otherwise, it will not activate. This process takes 20-30 minutes. Once done, you get all the great music, news, comedy, talk, and sports channels that XM offers. Then you'll see why I'll never go without it.

That's all there is to it!
