STEP 2: Mounting the XM Receiver

I rate the difficulty of this step as easy. Since the installation procedure involves the use of the trailer hitch wiring harness, I recommend mounting the XM receiver box somewhere in the trunk. Since I have a sedan, I chose to mount mine under the rear deck behind the right rear seat. The position I chose afforded me the ability to hide all of the wiring behind the stiff carpeting in the trunk near the fuel filler emergency cable.

I was going to use large pieces of Velcro to attach the receiver to the deck underside. However, I discovered it wasn't quite as strong as I wanted. So I purchased machine screws and some rubber grommets to cushion the box under the deck. If you do it this way, I recommend drilling small pilot holes for your machine screws to grab into. Also, make sure the screws aren't too long and puncture the top of the deck.

Once the box is mounted, the fun part begins. Running the wires from the dash to the receiver box.
